National Nutrition Month and Healthy Beverage Initiative

March is National Nutrition Month, and we’ve been celebrating here at Alameda Health System!

The RD’s at all of our hospital locations have been hard at work spreading the message about healthy eating and self-care in the kitchen! This past week, they’ve been running raffles at each of our cafeteria sites using receipts for healthy beverages as raffle tickets. In other words, if you choose a healthy beverage, you have a chance to win!

Raffle drawings will take place tomorrow at all of our cafe sites, so stay tuned for the winners!

Here are some pictures of our amazing RD tables from Tuesday

Healthy Beverage Initiative

We’ve also successfully launched our healthy beverage initiative. Part of that initiative is education, so keep your eyes open for posters designed to help you and our visitors make the healthiest drink choices.

Here’s an example of what you might see. (Click to view larger)

If you caught last month’s Wellness Newsletter, you likely noticed that we now have an official Healthy Beverage Policy in place that supports our mission to be a pillar of the community, leading the way in demonstrating healthy choices. Part of that is to limit the availability of Sugar Sweetened Beverages (SSBs) on our premises. We’re excited to launch this campaign, as we learned through surveys of our very own employees that most of us agree that we should be the institution that sets the example.

Be on the lookout for beverage labeling to match this signage and for additional water filling stations all over our 10 locations.

If you have any questions about this new policy, feel free to reach out to me at tsicola@alamedahealthsystem.org.
