2015 Wellness Teasers

What an exciting year we’ve had with AHS Passport to a Healthy Me! We’ve reached the end of the year with a whole lot to be proud of, so before we look ahead at what’s to come in 2015, let’s just do a little back-patting and celebrating for some of what we’ve accomplished this year as a well hospital organization.

 

The GCCJourney Is Reward

We took on the Global Corporate Challenge in our most exciting, most-participated-in wellness activity to date! For 100 days, we counted our steps in teams of 7 and made a virtual journey around the world together. And then we celebrated! We recognizes some of our top performers, our most-improved teams, and the folks who led the way with their positive attitudes and motivating spirit. We heard personal stories of triumph, weight loss, and transformation, and we’ll be doing it all again next May, so get excited!

Bauman Wellness

New logo 9-06Groups of interested folks at all of our hospital sites gathered bi-weekly over the course of 12 weeks for an awesome and engaging course called Gain Energy, Lose Weight, where they tasted delicious healthy recipes, learned gentle movements and stretches to release tension, and stress management techniques to practice at home. We look forward to welcoming the Bauman Wellness team back to AHS next summer, and in the meantime, they’re offering free one-on-one coaching to interested folks.

This will be the last post of 2014, so I wanted to share a few teasers coming your way at various points in 2015.

2015 Wellness Teasers

Pilates and Core Class at Highlandcrop bus-bro dvd photo

Gloria Kamil, personal trainer and “transformationist” will be teaching these awesome new classes every Monday at 12pm in the Old Cafeteria starting 1/12! In the meantime, check out Gloria’s services on her personal site and consider working with her directly. She comes highly recommended from one of our very own Highland employees who pushed to bring her here to AHS!

Meditation Group at Highland

Also requested by employees at Highland, we’ll be starting a weekly meditation group in January of 2015 facilitated by Susana Renaud of the Community Dharma Leaders Training Program at Spirit Rock. She bring years of experience to her practice and works with students of all levels, including complete beginner with zero meditation experience. This is an awesome opportunity to learn the art and restorative power of meditation right here at work. Classes will take place on Thursdays at 12pm in the 8th floor Centering Room in the H building at Highland.

Wellness Coaching and Tracking through MHN

Your employee assistance program, Managed Health Network is expanding wellness offerings starting January 2015. Limitless telephonic coaching with Mayo Clinic certified life coaches will be available to all AHS employees and family members to help you achieve your health and wellness goals. Topics include:

  • weight management
  • smoking cessation
  • fitness and exercise
  • stress management
  • overall lifestyle improvement
  • lifestyle support for chronic conditions (asthma, diabetes, CVD, etc)

The tracking tool will help you track your diet plan and physical activity through an easy-to-use online platform also available on mobile devices. We plan to promote these services alongside our nutrition and fitness offerings at each of the AHS sites next year. Don’t forget that MHN services are open to everyone in your household and is absolutely confidential!

GCC SleepGCC Sleep

Sleep is an essential part of a healthy lifestyle, but with busy schedules and workloads, it’s often the first to be sacrificed. GCC Sleep allows you to measure the quantity and quality of your sleep and helps you set goals to improve your sleep patterns. And if you’re an app user, you’ll be able to use the ‘wind down/go to bed’ notifications, a wake up alarm and a built-in sleep quality tracker.

GCC Sleep will have you bouncing out of bed fully charged and ready to take on each day. Look out for emails direct from GCC HQ for more information.

Keep on Keepin’ On

In addition to the exciting offerings I just shared, we’ll be continuing with the awesome stuff we’ve been doing all along: Zumba, Yoga, Stress Management Workshops, Massage, and Acupuncture — in fact, we’re expanding our Acupuncture offering to San Leandro and Alameda Hospital in February 2015!
