As an add-on to Alice’s post from July 13th about the best ways to find local and seasonal produce, I’d like to show you a chart that a friend shared with me.
It delineates which produce is in season at what time of the year. I love this chart and have printed it out so that I can have it at my disposal any time I’m food-shopping. I recommend you do the same as another step toward taking charge of your health by improving the quality of your food — and saving yourself a few dollars too!
Also, since I know it’s a recipe week, I’m also sharing with you a FANTASTIC smoothie that I made this morning:
Guac in a Glass (serves 2)
1 scoop unsweetened, unflavored protein powder OR 2 raw pasture eggs (eggs MUST be high quality, don’t do this with regular store-bought eggs)
1 stalk celery
1/2 banana OR 1 baby banana
juice of 1/2 a lime or lemon
1 sprig fresh parsley
4 or 5 sprigs cilantro (to taste)
1 T hempseed
6 raw almonds OR 1 T almond meal
1 T chia seed (optional)
stevia (tiny tiny amount!)
